Islamabad, Pakistan – Pakistani military forces have launched a major offensive, dubbed Operation Ghazab Lil Haq (Wrath of Justice), against the Afghan Taliban following a sharp escalation in cross-border hostilities along the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier, resulting in heavy casualties and widespread destruction of Taliban positions.
According to Pakistani authorities, the operation was initiated late on Thursday, February 26, 2026, after what Islamabad described as “unprovoked fire” from Afghan Taliban forces targeting multiple locations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. In response, the Pakistan Army, supported by air power, launched coordinated strikes against militant posts on both sides of the border.

Official figures released by Pakistan’s Information Ministry claim at least 133 Afghan Taliban operatives have been killed and more than 200 wounded during the offensive, with numerous Taliban posts, equipment, and headquarters destroyed in border sectors such as Chitral, Mohmand, Kurram, and Bajaur. Air strikes reportedly targeted key Taliban infrastructure in Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktika, including multiple brigade and corps headquarters.

The Afghan Taliban has yet to issue an independent, verifiable casualty statement. Independent confirmation of battlefield claims from either side has been limited amid the ongoing conflict.
