Iran Hits U S Naval Base in Bahrain Amid Escalating Middle East Conflict

Manama, Bahrain — February 28, 2026

Iran launched a missile strike targeting a United States naval facility in Bahrain on Saturday, sharply escalating tensions across the Middle East following coordinated U.S. and Israeli military operations against Iranian targets earlier the same day.

Regional officials reported explosions near the headquarters of the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Manama, a strategic command responsible for American naval operations throughout the Gulf. Bahraini authorities confirmed that a missile struck a service facility linked to the base, prompting the activation of national air-defence systems and emergency response units across the country.

Iranian military officials described the attack as retaliation for what they called “large-scale combat operations” carried out by U.S. and Israeli forces inside Iran. Reports indicate Iranian missiles were also launched toward several Gulf nations hosting American military installations, including Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates, signalling a potential expansion of the conflict.

Videos verified by international media showed smoke rising near the naval complex while authorities issued emergency alerts advising residents to remain indoors. Aviation operations across parts of the Gulf were disrupted as several countries temporarily restricted airspace and heightened security measures.

U.S. defence officials acknowledged the strike, stating that American forces remain on high alert and prepared to respond if further attacks occur. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard warned that operations could continue until its strategic objectives are met, raising concerns of prolonged regional instability.

World leaders have urged restraint, cautioning that continued escalation could threaten global energy supplies and international security. Diplomatic efforts are underway to prevent the crisis from developing into a broader regional war.
