Iran Claims USS Abraham Lincoln Attack, US Denies — Tehran says it launched ballistic missiles at the US aircraft carrier, while Washington insists the missiles missed and caused no damage amid rising Middle East tensions.

March 1, 2026 — International Desk

Iran has claimed that it targeted the United States aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln with ballistic missiles amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, but American officials have firmly denied that the vessel was hit or damaged.

According to Iranian state media, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that four ballistic missiles were launched toward the carrier as part of retaliatory military operations following recent regional hostilities. Tehran described the strike as a response to ongoing US-Israeli actions against Iranian targets and warned of further attacks if tensions continue to rise.

However, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) dismissed the allegation, saying the missiles did not come anywhere near the aircraft carrier. American officials emphasised that the USS Abraham Lincoln remains fully operational and continues conducting routine missions in the region without interruption.

US military sources also said there was no evidence of damage or casualties linked to the alleged attack, describing Iran’s statement as inaccurate. Pentagon officials reiterated that US naval forces maintain defensive readiness and continue monitoring threats across regional waters.

The incident comes amid a sharp escalation in conflict following intensified military exchanges involving Iran, the United States, and regional allies, raising fears of a broader confrontation affecting global security and energy markets.

Despite competing claims, independent confirmation of any successful strike has not emerged, leaving the situation marked by conflicting narratives as diplomatic tensions and military activity continue across the Middle East.
