CM Punjab Launches E-Taxi Scheme in Punjab to promote eco-friendly transport, create employment opportunities, and introduce electric vehicles with subsidized financing for drivers across the province.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially launched Pakistan’s first electric taxi (E-Taxi) scheme, marking a significant step toward environmentally friendly transportation and youth employment across the province. The initiative is part of the provincial government’s broader Vision 2030 plan to modernise urban mobility and reduce carbon emissions.
The scheme was inaugurated in Lahore, where the government distributed keys of electric vehicles to successful applicants during the launch ceremony. In the first phase, around 1,100 electric taxis will be provided at subsidised rates, with plans to expand the project to other districts of Punjab in the coming months.

Under the program, the Punjab government will financially support drivers by covering a major portion of the down payment. Officials stated that the government will pay 50 per cent of the down payment for male applicants and up to 60 per cent for female drivers to encourage women’s participation in the transport sector. Remaining payments will be made through easy, interest-free instalments over five years.
Authorities say the initiative aims to create dignified employment opportunities while promoting clean energy solutions. Each electric taxi will be equipped with modern safety features, including a panic button connected to the Punjab Safe Cities Authority to enhance passenger and driver security.
Speaking at the ceremony, the chief minister emphasised that the project would help establish an “e-mobility ecosystem” in Punjab and reduce dependence on fuel-powered vehicles.
