Israel Strikes Iran and Lebanon as Iran Claims Control of Strait of Hormuz
The Middle East conflict intensified on Wednesday as Israel confirmed a new wave of overnight airstrikes on Iranian military and government targets in Tehran while also striking Hezbollah positions in Lebanon. The escalation coincides with Iran’s claim that it has seized control of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route.
Israeli Strikes in Tehran
The Israeli military said its air force carried out multiple waves of strikes targeting Iranian ballistic missile launch systems and air defense infrastructure. Military spokesman Effie Defrin stated that one of the main targets was a leadership compound in Tehran that includes the presidential office and the headquarters of the Supreme National Security Council.
Israeli officials said dozens of bombs were dropped on the complex, which they described as a central hub for Iran’s top security decision-making. Other strikes reportedly targeted facilities used for training Iranian military officers and key government infrastructure.

Israel also claimed it struck a covert nuclear-related site known as the “Minzadehei” compound, which it alleges was involved in developing components linked to nuclear weapons. According to the Israeli Air Force, nearly 300 Iranian missile launchers have been destroyed since the operation began.
Iran Announces Hormuz Blockade
At the same time, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced it had closed the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic. Iranian officials said naval forces now control the waterway and warned that ships attempting to pass through could face missile or drone attacks.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints, carrying roughly 20 percent of global oil shipments. Any prolonged disruption could trigger major shocks to global energy markets.
Conflict Expands Across Region
Israeli forces also reported striking about 60 Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, including weapons depots and command centers. Meanwhile, the United States said it is prepared to escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz if necessary, underscoring growing fears of a wider regional confrontation.
