Israel has claimed that it has killed Iran’s top security official, Ali Larijani, in a series of overnight airstrikes, marking a major escalation in the ongoing conflict between the two regional powers.

According to Israeli officials, the strikes targeted senior Iranian leadership positions, with Defence Minister Israel Katz stating that Larijani — who served as secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council — was among those killed.

Israeli authorities described the operation as a precise, intelligence-led attack aimed at weakening Iran’s command structure. The same strikes reportedly also killed Gholamreza Soleimani, head of Iran’s Basij paramilitary force.

However, Iran has not yet officially confirmed Larijani’s death, and some reports indicate that his fate remains unclear, highlighting the difficulty of verifying claims during an active conflict.

A major blow to Iran’s leadership

If confirmed, Larijani would be one of the highest-ranking Iranian officials killed in the current الحرب, and possibly the most senior since the reported death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei earlier in the conflict.

Larijani was widely seen as a key figure in Iran’s political and security establishment, playing a central role in both domestic strategy and foreign diplomacy. His removal could significantly impact Tehran’s decision-making and coordination during the الحرب.

Rising regional tensions

The reported strike comes amid intensifying hostilities between Israel and Iran, with both sides carrying out missile and drone attacks and targeting strategic infrastructure. The conflict has already caused thousands of casualties and raised global concerns about energy supplies, particularly due to disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz.

Analysts warn that targeted killings of senior officials may further escalate the situation, potentially drawing in more regional or international actors.
