Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has approached the Supreme Court, requesting Shift Imran Khan to Al-Shifa Hospital in Islamabad for specialized medical treatment .

The petition, filed on Wednesday by PTI lawyer Sardar Latif Khosa under the Supreme Court Rules 2025, raises serious concerns about the transparency of Khan’s medical care and seeks the involvement of his personal physicians . The legal move comes a day after the 73-year-old former premier was taken to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a follow-up procedure on his eye condition .

According to the application, Khan requires immediate examination by a retina specialist, which his party claims is not available at the government-run PIMS . The plea specifically requests that Khan be “immediately shifted to Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad for proper treatment of his eyes from a retina specialist” .

PTI has demanded that Khan’s personal physicians—Dr. Faisal Sultan and Dr. Asim Yousaf—be permitted to oversee all medical procedures. The petition also calls for family members to be granted access during medical examinations and for legal counsel to receive attested copies of all medical reports .

Latif Khosa launched a scathing critique of the opaque nature of Khan’s recent medical examination, arguing in the petition that “the conduct of a medical examination in secrecy, without notice to the family or independent doctors, has given rise to serious apprehensions” . The lawyer vehemently criticized the opacity of Imran Khan’s treatment at PIMS, calling the lack of transparency utterly unacceptable.

Khan’s eye ailment—right central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO)—was first reported in late January. Recent medical reports indicate his vision in the right eye has significantly deteriorated . While the government maintains that Khan is “clinically stable” and receiving appropriate care, the opposition continues to allege lack of transparency .

The petition also requests that Khan’s lawyer be granted reasonable access to him for updated instructions regarding his legal representation . PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan expressed hope that the Supreme Court would fix the plea for hearing expeditiously, noting that similar applications regarding Khan’s access to lawyers remain pending .

Khan has been incarcerated at Adiala Jail since August 2023 in connection with multiple cases, including the Toshakhana criminal case under which this petition has been filed .
